RPE Scale Reference
RPE 10Max effort, no reps left (0 RIR)
RPE 9Could do 1 more rep (1 RIR)
RPE 8Could do 2 more reps (2 RIR)
RPE 7Could do 3 more reps (3 RIR)

Formula: RIR = 10 - RPE

What is RPE?

RPE stands for Rate of Perceived Exertion, a subjective scale used to measure exercise intensity based on how hard the exercise feels. Popularized by Mike Tuchscherer of Reactive Training Systems (RTS), the RPE scale runs from 1 to 10, where 10 represents maximum effort with no reps remaining.
