Understanding RotMG Damage Calculation
Damage in Realm of the Mad God is determined by multiple factors including your character's Attack stat, weapon damage range, Dexterity for attack speed, and enemy defense. Understanding these mechanics helps you optimize your character builds and choose the best equipment for different situations.
Core Damage Formula
Base Damage = floor(WeaponDamage × (0.5 + ATK/50))
If Weak debuff is active, ATK is treated as 0.
Attack Speed Formula
APS = (1.5 + 6.5 × (DEX/75)) × ROF × Buffs
If Dazed, APS is locked to 1.5 regardless of DEX.

Buffs (Player)
- Berserk: +25% attack speed
- Damaging: +25% damage
Debuffs (Player)
- Weak: ATK = 0
- Dazed: Locked to 1.5 APS
Enemy Debuffs
- Armor Broken: DEF = 0
- Curse: +25% damage taken
- Exposed: -20 DEF
Weapon Properties
- Armor Piercing: Ignores DEF
- Rate of Fire: Multiplies APS
Defense Mechanics
Enemy defense reduces incoming damage. The formula is: Actual Damage = max(Calculated Damage - Defense, Calculated Damage × 0.10). This means you always deal at least 10% of your calculated damage (the damage floor). Armor Piercing weapons and Armor Broken status completely ignore enemy defense.
Maximizing Your DPS
- Attack vs Dexterity: Both stats increase DPS, but their value depends on your weapon
- Weapon Choice: Higher DPS weapons may have lower range or other trade-offs
- Buff Synergy: Berserk + Damaging together provide massive DPS increases
