Corn Yield Calculator
Estimate corn yield per acre using the yield component method. Calculate ears per acre, kernels per ear, and projected bushels for agricultural planning.
Corn Yield Calculator
Estimate corn yield using the Yield Component Method. Measure ears in a known area (typically 17'5" of row for 30" spacing = 1/1000th acre) and count kernels per ear.
How to Estimate Corn Yield
The Yield Component Method is the standard approach for estimating corn yield before harvest. It involves counting ears in a known area (typically 1/1000th acre), counting kernels per ear, and dividing by a kernel weight factor to estimate bushels per acre.
Yield Components
- Ears per Acre: Count ears in 17'5" of row (30" spacing = 1/1000th acre)
- Kernels per Ear: Kernel rows x kernels per row (typically 14-18 rows)
- Kernel Weight Factor: 75,000-100,000 kernels per bushel depending on size
Yield Ratings
- Poor: Less than 100 bushels/acre
- Below Average: 100-140 bushels/acre
- Average: 140-180 bushels/acre
- Above Average: 180-220 bushels/acre
- Excellent: 220-280 bushels/acre
Moisture Adjustment
Corn is typically sold at 15.5% moisture. Wet corn weighs more but contains less dry matter. The calculator adjusts yield to standard moisture using the formula: Adjusted = Measured x (100 - Actual%) / (100 - Standard%).
